What you’ll learn and study on the course

During this course, you’ll learn the difference between coaching and mentoring and how each technique will support the development of your employees. You’ll explore different coaching models and methods and will gain an understanding into the roles and responsibilities involved with being a coach or mentor.

You’ll gain the practical skills and tools needed to support these theoretical modules and will carry out coaching and/or mentoring sessions under supervision.

Unit 1: Understanding good practice in workplace coaching

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the context for effective workplace coaching
  • Understand the process and content of effective workplace coaching

Unit 2: Undertaking an extended period of coaching in the workplace

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to plan and organise workplace coaching sessions
  • Be able to undertake at least thirty six hours effective workplace coaching activity
  • Be able to collect feedback from coaching clients on own performance as workplace coach
  • Know how to use tutorial supervision to develop and improve own coaching practice and to plan own continuing development as a workplace coach

Unit 3: Reflecting on workplace coaching skills

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to assess own abilities and characteristics as a workplace coach
  • Be able reflect on own communication and interpersonal skills when coaching
  • Be able to summarise coaching reflections and plan for future development needs

Unit 4: Understanding good practice in workplace mentoring

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the context for effective workplace mentoring
  • Understand the process for effective workplace mentoring

Unit 5: Undertaking an extended period of mentoring in the workplace

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to plan and organise formal workplace mentoring sessions
  • Be able to undertake at least thirty six hours of formal workplace mentoring
  • Be able to summarise and analyse a period of formal mentoring within the workplace using stakeholder feedback
  • Know how to use supervision to enhance workplace mentoring

Unit 6: Reflecting on workplace mentoring skills

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to assess own abilities and characteristics as a workplace mentor
  • Be able to reflect on own communication and interpersonal skills when mentoring
  • Be able to demonstrate own understanding of your effectiveness as a workplace mentor

ILM Level 3 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring

On successful completion of this course you will be awarded with the ILM Level 3 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring (RQF qualification code = 60136984).

Although there are no prior qualifications needed to enrol onto this ILM Level 3 Certificate in Coaching & Mentoring, it is aimed at those that are either new to a managerial role or, looking to improve their coaching and mentoring skills.

Basic assessments in maths, English and IT are involved.
