What you'll learn and study on the course

Our course will  provide you with an in-depth knowledge and competence of the counselling skills that can be used in everyday life and the theoretical models that underpin the use of counselling skills.

You'll develop your own counselling skills, understand issues of diversity during counselling and know how an ethical framework relates to the use of counselling skills.

What you can do after with it

After you complete this course, you can continue your studies further in areas as such as Level 4 Therapeutic Counselling, Level 3 Certificates in Advice and Guidance or Mentoring and Level 3 Health and Social Care.

You can then go onto becoming a fully qualified counsellor and work in many different specialist areas, depending on your interests. For example, these can include bereavement, relationship/marriage counselling, mental health, drugs, careers and even family therapy.

Unit One: Developing counselling skills (T/502/8235)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand how to conclude an interaction using counselling skills

Unit Two: Theoretical approaches in the use of counselling skills (L/502/8239)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand core concepts of the main theoretical approaches to counselling
  • Understand what is meant by the integrative model
  • Understand the importance of counselling theory
  • Be able to apply core theories in the use of counselling skills
  • Be able to self-reflect using theoretical approaches

Unit Three: Working ethically with counselling skills (K/502/8233)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand what is meant by an ethical framework
  • Know how an ethical framework relates to the use of counselling skills
  • Understand the importance of the setting in which counselling skills are used
  • Understand the concepts of ethical referral

Unit Four: Counselling skills and diversity (L/502/8225)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Understand the meaning of discrimination
  • Understand issues of diversity
  • Understand power issues within the counselling process

Unit Five: Counselling skills and personal development (L/502/8242)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Know own development needs
  • Understand process of personal development
  • Understand group dynamics
  • Understand impact of personal development on others
  • Be able to plan self-development

NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills (RQF)

On successful completion of our NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills (RQF) course you will receive a qualification listed on the RQF at level 3 (Qualification Reference Number: (600/0727/8). This course has also been assigned 40 credits.

Please note: Learners should be 16 or over to undertake the qualification.
